Changes to Gift Aid Declarations

The HMRC have annouced that charities must change the wording of their Gift Aid declarations, to comply with the law.

Charities must now ask donors if they pay sufficient tax to cover all the donations they intend to make in a single tax year.  Previously, donors were asked if they paid sufficient tax to cover the donation declared on the form.

HMRC have stated that declarations made before the announcement will be accepted, but all new declarations must comply with the new guidance.

Gift Aid records must now also be kept for 6 years, instead of 4 years, as was previously required.

STOP PRESS: The HMRC have announced that charities will have until the end of the year to make the required changes to the Gift Aid declaration forms.
